Howard Zinn discusses what it means to be a Patriot
"As a patriot, contemplating the dead GIs, should I comfort myself (as, understandably, their families do) with the thought: 'They died for their country.' If so, I would be lying to myself. Those who die in this war will not die for their country. They will die for their government. They will die for Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld. And yes, they will die for the greed of the oil cartels, for the expansion of the American empire, for the political ambitions of the President. They will die to cover up the theft of the nation's wealth to pay for the machines of death." Read the full feature by Howard Zinn.

As always with Zinn, whatever he writes is must read material. This man is a national treasure, one of the most intelligent and well spoken Americans who has ever lived. While the mainstream/Republican media assaults Hollywood stars for being against the Bush agenda, it's people like Howard Zinn who they will not invite on the air to question his views. They can't, they are too afraid. Hollywood actors, while some of them are right and intelligent, are not evenly matched when going head to head against Republican pundits. This is not the case with Howard Zinn, professor emeritus from Boston University and a distinguished author, who poured years of exhausting research into "A People's History of the United States". The pro-war Bushites would not be able to hold a candle to this man.

Read. Think about what he has said. It is one of the most important things you can do in this day and age.
