Big flippin' deal
It's time to downplay Kerry's wins a bit. There's no doubt that he had a great night, but winning North Dakota with a grand total of 5316 votes isn't something to right home about. Ditto for outplacing all the other candidates in Delaware with 16,729 votes. Big woop. Take out these two measly states and Kerry got 2 big wins (211,737 votes in Missouri, 90,790 in Arizona), 1 moderate one (40,347), second place in South Carolina (84,872), and a decent third place showing in Oklahoma (81,012). Which is great for him, but to exclaim that he won 5 states makes it seem like a bigger accomplishment. ND and DE just don't count as big wins.
Joementum never got off the ground and now it's no longer a threat. Dean mine as well be down in the trenches with Kucinich and Sharpton, it doesn't look like his campaign will ever take flight again. The most effect Dean will have on the campaign is if he drops out, then Edwards becomes the anti-Kerry vote who's also looking quite electable, winning South Carolina with 126,320 votes. Clark eeked out a win in Oklahoma, but we mine as well call him and Edwards co-Okie winners. Clark only mustered 20,189 votes in South Carolina, and Edwards finished ahead of him in Missouri and Delaware. In some respects, it looks like the Edwards and Clark campaigns are dead even, but my gut tells me that it's advantage Edwards. Take that for what it's worth.
Of course, most of the advantage right now goes to Kerry. Donations are sure to be rolling into his campaign now, One wonders if Edwards or Clark can gather up enough steam to really challenge him. That's upto Dean. I wonder, given the media's negative treatment of him, what would happen if Dean dropped out and endorsed Edwards or Clark, would the media spin it as positive or negative to their campaign?
