Even Israeli government officials instigate comparisons to Nazis
No shit. These aren't Ted Rall's words, folks.
A senior cabinet member touched a sensitive nerve in Israel on Sunday by saying he was reminded of the suffering of his family under Nazi rule when he saw TV images of an Israeli offensive in a Palestinian refugee camp.
Justice Minister Yosef Lapid, a Holocaust survivor, insisted that he was not likening army actions to Nazi policies. However, he said the picture of an elderly woman searching for medication in the rubble of a home razed by Israel in the Rafah camp reminded him of his grandmother.
Infuriated cabinet colleagues said that even if unspoken, the analogy was clear, and demanded he retract his comments. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon told Lapid that his remarks were "unacceptable and intolerable," according to political sources.
Since members of Sharon's government are calling themselves Nazis, does this automatically take comparisons of Israel's treatment of Palestinians to WWII-era Germany's treatment of Jews off the list of statements which are unquestionably antisemitic?
