Minnesota gives me gas
Don't you dare try selling cheap gas in Minnesota! In that state, if you run a service station that marks down gas to the point where you're not making a profit off it, the state fines your ass. One fine for selling gas too cheap was $70,000.
You might ask why service gas stations are makring down gas to the point where they don't make a profit off the sale of it. But the fact of the matter is that since gas is so expensive, they really don't make much profit off of it. The real profits are in how much potato chips, gum, candy bars, and soda you can sell to your customers. If you bring down your gas prices, you'll get more foot traffic, an therefore you'll get more sales. So it makes perfect sense. But I guess the government of Minnesota doesn't even believe in simple capitalism. It's like socialism, except without all those nifty "social" benefits.
Furthermore, it's amazing that we can see business getting the smackdown for selling gas too cheap, yet when gas prices seem to coincidentally go up for all stations at the same time, and oil companies coincidentally are recording record profits, we don't see an antitrust lawsuit. But I'm sure this is just a coincidence!
