[title missing due to looting]
Robert Fisk scoffs at the notion that we have liberated Baghdad, talking about how he saw US troops sitting on their tank while 100 meters away, the owner of a grain silo had to tell his guards to shoot looters. He also says that a UN office that was looted was just 200 meters away from a US military checkpoint, and nothing was done to stop the carnage. And beyond looting, Fisk further points out, "And already America's army of 'liberation' is beginning to seem an army of occupation. I watched hundreds of Iraqi civilians queuing to cross a motorway bridge at Daura yesterday morning, each man ordered by US soldiers to raise his shirt and lower his trousers - in front of other civilians, including women - to prove they were not suicide bombers."
Iraq's third largest city, Mosul, has fallen to US and Kurd forces, prepare to see a repeat of Baghdad because the looting and chaos has already begun.
Meanwhile, the BBC reports that US/UK forces may finally be taking the looting seriously by setting up a civil military operations center in Baghdad and asking for help from Iraqi citizens whoused to run public services for the city. This article also states that the looting in Baghdad has reached "epidemic proportions", describes how Iraqi citizens have locked themselves in their homes out of fear. Some Iraqi citizens, taking the law into their own hands, beat a boy looter to death.
The ransacking of hospitals has continued in Baghdad and Mosul.
