You thought gas prices were high now

Bend over!

OPEC sought to strengthen its grip on world oil markets today with a surprise announcement that it was cutting its production, in an aggressive display of its desire to maintain oil prices at their highest level in two decades.

The best part of this article is the last paragraph:

Revenue from international sales by OPEC, which accounts for about a third of world oil production, surged nearly 25 percent in 2003 — to $247 billion from $199 billion the previous year — as oil prices climbed to their highest annual average level in two decades, according to Cambridge Energy Research Associates.

Feeling bilked? Canada has a solution.

You can fill up your tank with corn ethanol north of the border. (This was the pump I used, and my car ran better on corn than petrol.) We can produce it locally and it's cleaner burning. And we could tell OPEC to kiss our collective, fat American asses. Sounds like a solution I could live with, how about you?
