They're fucking five!

Statements like this astound me.

The most startling change was a 369 percent increase in spending on attention deficit drugs for children under five. That's in part because of the popularity of newer, long-acting medicines under patent, compared with twice-a-day Ritalin and generic versions available for years.

Excuse me, but children under five are supposed to have attention spans? Jesus Christ. What would we have ever done without these miracle drugs? Whole generations grew up fine without them. But now, the same pharmaceutical companies who practically murder AIDS victims in Africa by refusing to provide them with drugs, have no problems with medicating your child up the wazoo. Gosh, little Billy doesn't pay attention to his toy for more than five minutes, let's DRUG him! How fucking far off the deep end have we gone as a society?
