This is the reason why more of us need to run for our local school boards

A rural Pennsylvania county has mandated the teaching of "Intelligent Design" in public schools, believed to be the first county in the nation to do such. The school board vote mandating the teaching of religious creationism was 6-3, with 2 of the 3 dissenters resigning in disgust after the vote was taken.

If somebody wants to believe in creationism, fine, that's their right. However, creationism being taught in schools is nothing more than religion being enforced on people -- at our expense -- and that's not right. Maybe I'm more sensitive to this issue because Roger Williams, the founder of the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Planations, was run out of Massachusetts for stipulating a very radical philosophy for the 1600s: People have the right to practice any religion they choose, or none at all.

Any religion or no religion, it's your choice. And when it's stops becoming your choice, that's when we've transported ourselves back to the 1600s.
