Watch commericals or break the law, your choice

That is if this bullshit copyright bill, HR2391, becomes law. There are more important elements to the bill, but I just want to complain about this one first:

The bill would also permit people to use technology to skip objectionable content -- like a gory or sexually explicit scene -- in films, a right that consumers already have. However, under the proposed language, viewers would not be allowed to use software or devices to skip commericals or promotional announcements "that would otherwise be performed or displayed before, during or after the performance of the motion picture," like the previews on a DVD.

Great. What's next, a proposed law that makes it illegal to take a piss when the commericals? Will TVs be rigged to lock the fridge door whenever commericals come on?

What other happy, fun, making-us-all-criminals things do we have to look forward to?

  • "Fair use" will be destroyed, no more artists using samples in songs
  • If you download a song off a peer-to-peer network, congrats, you're going to jail!
  • If you have unpaid for copyrighted material on your iPod, you're going to jail, too!
  • The RIAA and MPAA wetting themselves with glee
  • The prices of movies and CDs continuing to go up as the entertainment industries point to new bullshit reasons for the price increases

Welcome to Bush's corporate playland, kids. Now bend over and take it!
