Happy International Labor Day!
Just why is Mayday the International Labor Day? Because of a little thing called the Haymarket Riot that took place in Chicago, early May of 1886. Back then, union members fought and died so we could enjoy an 8 hour work day, which is slowly bing chipped away. It's peculiar that this riot took place on American soil and we don't remember it, yet the rest of the world does. I don't remember being taught about this in my high school history classes. Do you? Don't be ashamed to admit if this little tidbit from history is foreign to you until now, there's a lot of history that's buried. But if you're sitting at your cubical this beautiful saturday morning, damning yourself for showing up to work instead of enjoying the day, click the link and at least enjoy part of the reason as to why you're not pulling a 12-14 hour shift.
