Iraq: Unfiltered
While Iraq seems to have dropped out of the media's view for the time being, with the only stories about the war trying to put a rosy face on things, the situation hasn't had an about face in the past week. Christopher Allbritton captures his view of the national mindset in a rather lengthy post. I won't quote everything from it, so that means you're expected to read the whole thing. There will be a test on this tomorrow.
I once believed that telling the truth - or a small part of it - could help the world. It could help people understand things better and thus make the world better. But this war defies comprehension. It's so stupid and there seems to be no point to anything that happens here. People die on a daily basis in random, terrifying attacks. And for what? Freedom? Stability? Peace? There is none of that here and it's likely there won't be after the Americans leave. Iraq has spiraled into a dark place, much worse than where it was a year ago during the war. There is no freedom from the fear that is stoked by mutual hatred, cynicism and an apprehension about the future. So what if one side has superior firepower? Every bullet fired helps kill souls on both sides of this war, whether it hits flesh or lands harmlessly.
