Judith Miller is going to where she belongs
Jail! Well, pending an appeal, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. She's being held in contempt because of her refusal to testify on the Valarie Plame case. Her response?
"Confidential sources, especially in Washington, are vital for balanced reporting if the public is to hear from government critics," she said.
Agreed, Judith. And I'm all for sources releasing information illegally in order to get it published; how would we ever have the Pentagon Papers to tell us the the full story behind the Vietnam War without such an exchange of information? However, Judith is fully aware of the fact that whoever in the Bush administration leaked the information about Plame placed her life, and the life of her family and whatever intelligence connections she made, in danger. It also damaged our national secuirty. There's a huge difference between that and, say, the use of confidential sources to release the Pentagon Papers.
And as far as I'm concerned, Judith should be tarred and feathered for her reporting that helped lead us into the latest war in Iraq, where her main source was Ahmed Chalabi. Does a paycheck and your ego mean so much to you, Judith, that you don't mind being partly responsible for thousands of deaths?
