The Comedy of History. Future history, that is.
Just think about how fucked up American Historians will regard us long after we're dead. In 2000, we had arguably the closest election in the history of our nation, and even though everybody knew Al Gore got the most votes in Florida, Bush was placed into office because of the lack of quality in our voting system. So to replace them, we bring in touch screen voting machines that provide no paper backup, no way to recount the votes, no way to know if the voting has been accurate, the votes are stored in a database that a chimp could hack (I'm not joking, there's evidence on video of a chimp hacking it) because the database isn't password protected, and if that wasn't enough, these touch screen voting machines seem to cause a whole slew of user errors. But instead of investing money in already established voting systems that don't cause as many user errors, are more accurate, and provide a paper ballot backup so recounts wouldn't be a problem, many of our respective state governments decide on two options: A) User the problem-riddled touch screen voting machines; or B) Stick with problem-riddled punch card ballots. Then in 2004, while not as close, is riddled with problems that make it look like the other candidate could have easily won it.
We better put some Depends in a time capsule, because future historians are going to shit themselves looking into this.
