Powell: It's Genocide

My love/hate relationship with Colin Powell has shifted towards the former today as has declared that the Sudanese government is committing genocide in Darfur. Of course, it did take him an extremely long time to point out the obvious, but I'm not up for criticizing him today.

This may force the Bush administration to finally get off their ass and do something about the crisis.

Mr Powell, directly blaming the Sudanese government, said: "This was a coordinated effort, not just random violence."

The US now has an obligation under international law to act. Labelling violence as genocide is relatively rare.

Does this mean that my Genocide Watch countdown gets suspended? It will be for now, as I'll be monitoring the situation closely to see if Bush acts as he is obligated to.
