More of that "Liberal Bias" from the media

As I watched CNN this afternoon, the news scroll trolled away at the bottom of the screen, spitting out headlines without detail. But boy, they can sure frame an issue using this. One headline that scrolled past really caught my eye: "Senate 30-hour talkathon continues; GOP accuses Democrats of blocking judicial nominees."

Let's break this down. "GOP accuses", this is what I have the biggest problem with. Anyone who isn't a neophyte to the English language knows that when you accuse somebody of committing an action, then you are inherently saying that their action is wrong. In some cases, you can assume that the accuser thinks the action in question was performed with malicious intent.

So to say that the GOP "accuses" the Democrats of holding up judicial nominations, the GOP, with CNN's help, has framed the issue to saying that the Democrats are doing something wrong by holding up the nominees from being voted on to see if they can fill positions in federal courts.

The Democrats are blocking judicial nominations, but it's not wrong, it's democracy. The Senate Democrats are using powers granted to them in the Constitution. Last time I checked, if our representatives work within the bounds of the Constitution, then their actions are not wrong. Maybe the Republicans and CNN should retake their high school civics class before they speak of this topic again.

What's the problem with reporting the truth? Why not have a headline that says, "Senate 30-hour session continues because GOP disagrees with Democrats blocking judicial nominees." The Senate Democrats are using the powers granted to them in the Constitution to fight the GOP, and the GOP is doing the same thing in the Senate. Unfortunately, they have decided to play dirty by inciting that the Democrats have done something wrong by blocking these judicial nominations. They haven't, unless there's something wrong with the democratic process. Taking a look at who resides in the executive branch right now and the party which supports him, I get the feeling that Republicans simply aren't concerned about democracy if it doesn't lead to the accomplishment of their goals.
