Igloo Blogging No More

It seems that everytime traffic on my site is starting to pick up, something happens in my life which forces me away from being able to regularly update it. Nothing's changed this time around. These last two times I've been forced away from the website, it's been when something illegal happened to me. In October I get canned from my job for rather suspicious reasons that I still need to talk toa lawyer about, and yesterday my roommate violates Rhode Island law by giving me eviction notice, which I assume was effectively immediately, all because I asked for heat which is a necessity, not an amenity.

As pointed out in R.I. Gen. Laws ยง 34-18-37: "Notice required to terminate or change month-to-month tenancy: 30 days." It doesn't get more cut and dry then that.

Forced Hiatus

Well, I just went downstairs and found a note from my roommate telling me that I have been kicked to the curb because I dared to ask for heat.

I'll try being around, but I'm afraid things are going to be a little bit tough for me right now. Sorry.

Your weekly Plame Scandal update

I did a Lexis/Nexis search for articles that have "Plame" in the headline, lead paragraph, and body; I also set my search to look for articles with "investigation" in the body. Date ranges for my search: 11/21/03 - 12/05/03. I found not a single article which discussed the details of our Justice Department's investigation into the Plame Scandal and what senior members of the Bush administration were responsible for leaking information that endangered the lives of American citizens for incredibly petty reasons.

Lexis/Nexis, for those of you who are not familiar with it, is the largest database for media research, You can find anything and everything on it if what you're looking for exists. So we can safely assume no major or major/minor media company in the world has even touched the Plame Scandal investigation story. This information makesme wonder if there is one newspaper that even has a reporter assigned to cover the story.

Meanwhile, we still have at least two criminals sitting in the White House, and our president doesn't seem to care that among his senior advisors are people who think life is cheap and worth endangering for political reasons.

This is a national outrage and the media refuses to report it.

Wow, I just saw my breath and I'm not outside! Anybody know where I can get good, warm gloves for typing?

Rush goes doctor-shopping for his drug of choice

Read all about it. Why hasn't this criminal been prosecuted yet?

Tee hee hee

BBC has this caption under a photo of Ahhhnald: "The gubernator has been campaigning hard for his budget".

Ronnie is about to kick the bucket

At least that's whatI think after reading this article. He'll likely to die anytime now. If he happens to die while the presidential campaigns are in full swing next year, how much do you want to bet that the Bush administration will use the news for political purposes? Do the Democrats have anything planned for this? And how would you plan for the death of a former president helping the current president's campaign for reelection?

WTO forces Bush to lift steel tariffs

This is what happens when you sign free trade agreements. I'm not sure exactly where I stand with this. On one hand, I know that could have tried to use this the line the pockets of steel company CEOs and less to save American jobs. On the other side, though, shouldn't a country have the right to do this without an international body threatening sanctions on them? The US is trying to use the WTO to force Europe to eat our genetically modified food that Europeans don't want shoved down their throats. The WTO has mucked things up in other countries, ripping down their democratically elected laws so they can conform to the narrower confines of "free trade". If foreign countries dump cheap steel on the US and we want our jobs to be protected, especially in the current state of our economy, shouldn't we have some freedom to protect our economy?

For those wondering if I have gone nuts and started supporting Bush, let me restate that I don't know Bush's motives. If I were President, I would get a written agreement from steel manufactures saying that if I put up tariffs, then they would preserve steel jobs. But the undemocratic nature that the WTO poses against other countries is one of the main reasons people like me hit the streets of Seattle in 1999. I see no difference between the WTO ruling against the US or a third world nation.

Are you Northern Italian or Italian Proper?

My friend Amy sent me this link about Northern Italy wanting to secede from Italy.

That economy sure is booming

Jobless claims rise to 365,000. I'm starting a new fulltime position next week, (at 2/3 the pay I've been used to for the past 5 years), but a friend of mine just got laid off. Fun times.

Igloo Blogging

There will be continued light blogging since I do not have any heat and it's freezing up here. Things aren't looking up, either. An old fashioned Nor'easter is supposed to hit New England this weekend. Sigh.

Cincinnati Racism

From 9/02 - 6/03, Cincinnati was my home, so I know a little about the area. Let me state my biases right away, which are perfectly summed up in a column I wrote last Febuary:

...Cincinnati isn't a conservative area. Cincinnati is a Republican area.

A white Republican area. It's important to make this distinction, because of the rampant racism that I discovered out here. Yes, Cincinnati is a city where you hear about race riots taking place. And no, I do not want to be an apologist for antagonizers on the other side of the race fence, I don't believe in every single black cause that is floated down the pike. But I refuse to be an apologist for members of my race whose egos and general lack of common sense let them morph into racist jackasses who beat the drums against anything that any black civil rights activist says. These are the same people who demand that all immigrants learn the "culture", ie: speak english and become good little christians.

When I first read the columns in the Cincinnati Enquirer and heard the talk radio programs in this city, I was shocked. I continue to be shocked. Save for one good radio station that's run by black people, which I find to be very thoughtful and journalistically sound, the media out here is lily white and full of race baiters. All I am waiting for is one of these media sources to come out one day and say, "Well, the problem with these goddamn niggers..", because you KNOW that's what they are thinking in the back of their minds.

Of course, no matter how lily white Republican it is around here, if a member of the media came out and started a sentence with, "Those goddamn niggers", they would be fired. I just think that that is what they are thinking. That's what some members of the media out here wish they could say.

Then again, police officers can kill black people out here and not be thrown in prison for murder, so I could be incorrect.

Now I'm not going to say that that the Cincinnati cops were racist and beat a black man to death, especially after the tape shows the police trying to subdue a 400+ man taking swings at them, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the mainstream media has not told us the full story.

Unfortunately, that's the only side of the story I know so far.

I talked with a friend about this last night, she told me that the cops should be punished. I told her that they won't be; in fact, if they don't stay on the Cincinnati force, they'll probably just get a job at a suburban police department elsewhere in Greater Cincinnati or Hamilton County, which is exactly what hapoened to Cincinnati cops who shot and killed an unarmed black man a couple of years back. She was shocked, surprised, and disappointed when I delivered this information.

I wasn't surprised with her reaction. Unless you have lived in Cincinnati, you really don't know what the city is like. You really don't know how racist it is until you read Cincinnati Enquirer or listen to talk radio in 700 WLW 'The Big One'. You really don't understand the attitudes that most white residents of Cincinnati will simply assume that the police are innocent in every case involving a black suspect and cops taking the law into their own hands. These residents will not question the cops, and they are not reasonable. They will not listen to reason and they will not take the facts of a case into account before coming to their racist conclusions.

This mindset is madness, but unfortunately that's just the way things go in Cincinnati.

Whether or not this latest victim started the violence of if the cops took out their nightsticks first, we will probably never know. The only thing we can be certain about is that the cops will not lose their jobs, and the residents of the city will continue to cheer for them in the most racist of manners.

'Tis the season to think about yourself

A conversation I just had with a friend, whose name has been deleted to protected the innocent.

******: this is extremely difficult, no one wants to help us out even on christmas
adupont13: And I've been finding out that christmas is usually the least charitable time of year.
******: I agree
adupont13: Your friends will give you gifts and do nice things, but the heightened sense of the season really brings out the true nature of the human spirit.. At least in America.
adupont13: Which is me me me me me me mememememememememememememememal lll about fuckin me me me!
******: lol
adupont13: Seriously.
******: I don't feel that way
******: in fact i've been in a very giving mood lately
adupont13: That makes you an abnormality. :)

Basking in stupidity

I was reading posts on A Small Victory today, but then I thought to myself, "Why the fuck am I reading this bullshit?"

Light blogging

I will be doing light blogging for the near future. I'm not sure when I can get back at it full time.. Since winter is here and my roommate or landlord don't care about the fact that I don't have heat, it's frequently too cold to spend much time in front of the computer, and I'm probably going to haev to find a new place to live before the end of the year. If that's not stressful enough, I could have a few friends hating my guts before the end of year.

Ahhh, so much drama. I thought I had grown up I have grown up, but it's my mistake for trusting 20-something children. Now I'm penniless, freezing and I don't even have the freedom to successful run a simple blog in my spare time.

I'm willing to move, somebody have a cheap room for an eccentric loaded mouth? I can cook and I clean up my own messes..

Whine Whine Whine

You know, it's really tough to blog when you don't have any fucking heat. Especially when you wake up and see snow on the ground.

Big Government Conservatives

Pork Pork Pork:

The passage on Tuesday of the $400 billion Medicare bill, within a day or so of the delivery of the $400 billion defense bill, and around the same time as the near-passage of the gargantuan, pork-laden energy bill, brought into sharp relief a surprising but undeniable feature of the Bush administration and the GOP-controlled Congress: they spend money like the Republican stereotype of Big-Government Democrats, with total disregard for fiscal responsibility.

Well ain't that the truth. Leave it to Mother Jones to give you an unbiased rundown of just how much government has grown under the reign of King W. The article only goes into the economic aspects of big government, GOP style. It doesn't talk about GOP-backed measures that have increased the size and scope of government the closest they ever have been to Orwellian standards with things like the PATRIOT Act and PATRIOT II that they want to get passed, not to mention attempting to add freedom-limiting Flag and Gay Marriage amendments to the Constitution, and their constant march to shove religion down our throats.

Shameless

From the "Those Arrogant Fucking Pricks" department, some members of the GOP want to park a Norwegian Luxury Ship in NYC for the 2004 convention. When Republicans are not at the convention, then they can just stay on the ship! Fuck the pleabians, and screw trying to pump money into the city's economy. Sigh.

Now this is just weird

Rabid Bitch (who penned the "Asshole of the Week" feature back when Loaded Mouth had columns) sent me an interesting link today. I'll quote the story in full:

Bush's Drinking Daughter Goes 'Pansy'

You know, some research says that those who are the most homophobic are the most likely to actually BE homosexuals. So what does that say about President George Bush? Well, we don't know if the Prez might hiding out with the queers in secret, but we do know his daughter isn't shy about hanging out with them in public. Bush's daughter Barbara was spotted recently having a gay old time at a concert by all-gay punk band Pansy Division. Barbara and friends cozied up in the back room drinking, while out front the band screamed their queer hearts out. The band reportedly dedicated their rabid anti-Bush song, Political Asshole, to the first daughter during the show. Daddy's just got to love that.

Pansy Division, formerly on the somewhat non-political Lookout! Records roster, recently jumped ship and signed witht he highly political label Alternative Tentacles, run by none other then the man himself, Jello Biafra. If you aren't familiar with Jello, then you suck. :) The Dead Kennedys songwriter and original frontman is not exactly a big fan of Bush.

From the bridge comes.. Job cuts!

Ahhh, more signs of that economy just looking up:

DuPont Co. said Monday it will reduce costs by $900 million, partly through job cuts...

DuPont to their workers: Merry Christmas!

GOP redistricting (cheating) overturned in Colorado

Score one for the good guys:

In a decision that has national implications, the Colorado Supreme Court threw out the state's new congressional districts Monday saying the GOP-led Legislature redrew the maps in violation of the state constitution.

This is what many people, like myself, said about GOP redistricting in Texas. There's a reason that redistricting is traditionally done only once every 10 years, because it's such a pain in the rump to accomplish. Doing it outside of the decade timeframe is nuts. This invites state general congressional bodies to get nothing done beyond redistricting. Or, in other words, the GOP is concerned simply with gaining power through undemocratic means since they can't win such power in a fair election. They are not concerned with a legislature doing the jobs that citizens elected its members to do.. You know, passing laws and trying to make government run smoothly.

My work schedule has been fucking with me, so I just didn't make any posts yesterday. I will try to make a few today before going to work.
