Exhausted

The usual blitz of posts that come early in the morning won't be coming tonight, since I'm in my 24th waking hour as I type this. I spent my day working, then heading down to NYC after work, became the cause of giggles, and came back. And I'm tiiiired. That plopping sound you hear in the distance is me hitting the sack.

Hey! Where's my Saturday Cartoons? Where's my Saturday Sex?! I want sex!

My schedule at work has changed and I'm working saturdays now, so I need to update the blog. Otherwise I'll get bored. So cartoons and and sex (but no cartoon sex, though that's a tempting idea if I ever set aside a day for anime) will be on sundays from now on.

I'm out of the Alliance

[File under Blog Politics.]

I've been pondering whether I should cut my ties with The Alliance of Free Blogs. The great majority of their blogs are rabid right wing loonies, but I thought at the very least that getting my link Anti-Anti-Flag or IMAO would bring in some commenting trolls, people I could flame to a crisp for my own personal amusement. But I hardly receive hits from Alliance blogs, probably because the Alliance has no standards for membership and they'll add any crappy blog that applies, thus burying the link to my site. Now because of my affiliation, one blog has me listed as being on the right, and I wonder if other people make the mistake of thinking that I'm a right wing crackpot before even coming to this site.

I'm a progressive lunatic, damnit. :)

I've emailed the Alliance and asked them to remove my link from their blogroll. I refuse to be mistaken for somebody who supports that unelected motherfucker sitting in the Oval Office.

Well, I haven't quoted Raed in a while...

I feel like I haven't spoken for myself in a while, too, abusing the trusty old "blockquote" tag. That will be changing shortly. In the meantime, Raed, my favorite Iraqi blogger, has a few things to say about Depleted Uranium and Radiation.

More than 40% of the American soldiers are affected by the radiations of the Depleted Uranium used by the American Forces during this war.

Well? I did check many sites personally, using a Geiger Counter, and found that the radiation level is like 2000% to 13000% more than the regular background reading. I saw hundreds of Iraqi tanks destroyed by DU bullets, in the middle of the residential areas? I mean? Saddam is a criminal, he put those tanks between civilian houses, but Bush is a criminal too? he used radio active weapons to destroy them.

Iraqis were cutting parts of the radio active tanks, and melting them to be re-used as steel I beams for constructing houses. I met dozens of Iraqis working in a huge area near the southern gate of Baghdad where the American forces collected some hundreds of destroyed Iraqi tanks? those Iraqis didn?t know the meaning or Uranium, or the meaning of radiation? they didn?t have other jobs and they had official papers from the CPA, as an approval for cutting and transferring the parts of the Iraqi weapons.

In some places like Nasryya, Basra, Amara and Kut, destroyed Iraqi tanks were not moved from their locations, I tried ? in cooperation with dozens of other volunteers -to start some small awareness campaigns in those cities, I hope they reduced the number of children playing inside the tanks.

The economy's doing great!

Words of Wisdom

Seen on a bathroom stall somewhere in South Africa: "Cheer up! Bush could be president of your country."

Ahhh, that damned liberal media

Apparently, the New York Times thinks it's a story that Teresa Heinz Kerry will not release her tax returns. Last time I checked, it was only her husband who was running for office.

The bleepin Yankees are in town, so I have to make a baseball post

I caught A-Rod at the plate in the 8th inning. I could have sworn the Fenway crowd jeered him with "A-HOLE! A-HOLE! A-HOLE!" We're alla 'bout class, jackass. :)

The (lack of) case against Saddam

This headline from today's Independent caught my eye, "America quietly sacks its prize witness against Saddam." Really? That's interesting. Who is this "witness" and what information did he provide?

Khidir Hamza was the dissident Iraqi nuclear scientist who played an important role persuading Americans to go to war in Iraq. His credentials appeared impeccable because he claimed to have headed Saddam's nuclear programme before defecting in 1994.

After the war, Dr Hamza was rewarded, to the distress of many Iraqi scientists, with a well-paid job as the senior advisor to the Ministry of Science and Technology. Appointed by the Coalition Provisional Authority, he had partial control of Iraq's nuclear and military industries.

It was not a successful appointment, according to sources within the ministry. Dr Hamza seldom turned up for work. He obstructed others from doing their jobs. On 4 March, his contract was not renewed by the CPA. It is now trying to evict him from his house in the heavily guarded "Green Zone" where the CPA has its headquarters. He could not be contacted by The Independent but is believed to have taken up a job with a US company.

Hmmm.. A Bush administration gets a foreigner to peddle lies about Saddam so we have an excuse to goto war with Iraq. Why, that's never happened before!

More than 10 years later, I can still recall my brother Sean's face. It was bright red. Furious. Not one given to fits of temper, Sean was in an uproar. He was a father, and he had just heard that Iraqi soldiers had taken scores of babies out of incubators in Kuwait City and left them to die. The Iraqis had shipped the incubators back to Baghdad. A pacifist by nature, my brother was not in a peaceful mood that day. "We've got to go and get Saddam Hussein. Now," he said passionately.

I completely understood his feelings. Although I had no family of my own then, who could countenance such brutality? The news of the slaughter had come at a key moment in the deliberations about whether the US would invade Iraq. Those who watched the non-stop debates on TV saw that many of those who had previously wavered on the issue had been turned into warriors by this shocking incident.

Too bad it never happened. The babies in the incubator story is a classic example of how easy it is for the public and legislators to be mislead during moments of high tension. It's also a vivid example of how the media can be manipulated if we do not keep our guards up.

Remember, if you question a Bush administration, you're not a patriot!

The Real War

Iraqi blogger River sets the record straight in a post you should read.

I think western news networks are far too tame. They show the Hollywood version of war- strong troops in uniform, hostile Iraqis being captured and made to face "justice" and the White House turkey posing with the Thanksgiving turkey... which is just fine. But what about the destruction that comes with war and occupation? What about the death? I don't mean just the images of dead Iraqis scattered all over, but dead Americans too. People should *have* to see those images. Why is it not ok to show dead Iraqis and American troops in Iraq, but it's fine to show the catastrophe of September 11 over and over again? I wish every person who emails me supporting the war, safe behind their computer, secure in their narrow mind and fixed views, could actually come and experience the war live. I wish they could spend just 24 hours in Baghdad today and hear Mark Kimmett talk about the death of 700 "insurgents" like it was a proud day for Americans everywhere...

The Right Mindset

How do you beat common sense into somebody like this?

I've heard of explosions during sex

But I believe this would qualify as the bad kind of sexual explosion.

Newsblast!

I don't like leaving the blog with as few updates as this, but I also have to goto bed. So maybe I should call this the "News Compromise"...

This just in from the "Big Flippin' Surprise!" dept.: Troops aren't re-enlisting. Why do American troops hate America?

Being completely against the war in Iraw right from it's onset, I'm not sure if I can/want to agree witht he assessment of Lt. Col. Antulio Echevarria that the Bush administration really didn't think this through. His solution? We should have had more troops on the ground from the beginning. Listening to talk radio on the road earlier today, I heard John McCain and, in so many words, he basically said the same thing. In his view, he had gone to Iraq and talked witht he military commanders on the ground, and all of them said that more troops were needed because attacks, like the ones we have seen recently, were coming. So we have some military commanders in Iraq now saying that these attacks were predictable, but if I remember the Bush administration's stance correctly, they wanted to keep the number of troops down to a minimum. Wouldn't want to risk that war effort becoming too big or anything. Like I said, I completely disagree with the war, but the incompetence of this administration is astounding. First they want war, but then they aren't willing to really fight it? Can't these guys do anything right?

Quote of the day:

"I knew what would happen if people thought we were developing a potential war plan for Iraq," Bush is quoted as telling Woodward. "It was such a high-stakes moment and ... it would look like that I was anxious to go to war. And I'm not anxious to go to war."

I guess this is believable. Bush seemed more anxious to play a round of golf rather then protect the nation after he was told bin Laden wanted to attack it, and had the resources to attack it.

Let's not forget about Bush the Environmentalist:

The Bush administration's new air quality standard will impose tougher requirements on the nation's smoggiest regions ? Southern and Central California ? but postpone the compliance deadline for so many years that local air officials worry that the regulations could be rendered ineffective.

If you listenclosely, somewhere in the distance you'll hear your corporate masters shout, "SWEET! Hand so more kickbacks to Scalia!" (OK, that's a completely unfounded charge, but funny, right?)

15 Iraqis dead in Fallujah.

The FDA bows to your corporate masters and may have taken a few lives in the process (not like they care) (drowsiness = cynicism, for anyone keeping score at home):

Top Food and Drug Administration officials admitted yesterday that they barred the agency's top expert from testifying at a public hearing about his conclusion that antidepressants cause children to become suicidal because they viewed his findings as alarmist and premature...

Dr. Andrew D. Mosholder, an agency epidemiologist, was the man charged with analyzing 22 studies involving 4,250 children and seven drugs. In a carefully argued, 33-page memorandum, he concluded that children given antidepressants were almost twice as likely as those given placebos to become suicidal.

He urged the agency to discourage doctors from prescribing to children all antidepressants except Prozac. Prozac is the only antidepressant proven effective in treating depressed children, and its studies showed no link with suicide, Dr. Mosholder wrote. Dr. Mosholder's conclusions mirrored those made by British health authorities. [tasnote: I guess those louts are unreliable, just like the Canadians and their damned cheap prescription drugs. UNSAFE! YOU'LL ALL DIE IF YOU TAKE THEM! GO BROKE FOR US!!] ...

Health officials convened a special advisory committee on Feb. 2 to offer guidance on how the agency should respond to the studies. As the agency's principal reviewer, Dr. Mosholder was scheduled to speak. He was removed from the agenda, Dr. Temple said.

Shameless.

And if you were hoping for peace in Iraq and the Middle East, Bush's dicksuck to Sharon set that back for a while.

Clearly taken aback by the fury provoked by the change, the US secretary of state, Colin Powell, embarked on a series of media appearances and telephone calls to try to convince the administration's many critics that President George Bush's support for Jewish settlement building in the West Bank would not emascu late an eventual Palestinian state. He also defended the president's stand against the right of return of Palestinian refugees to their homes in what is now Israel.

I'm so glad the adults are in charge.

While we're on the topic...

Let's make a few more corrections, eh?

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said Thursday that he never expected so many American troops to be dying at this point in the war in Iraq, a rare admission from an official who almost never publicly concedes an error in fact or judgment.

How about some more admissions while we're at it? Since Rummy is in an open mood today, did anyr eporters dare to ask where the weapons of mass destruction of Saddam's connections to Osama were hiding?

I wanted to post more today...

...but work calls.

Fallooooooojah

Amnesty International is more then a little bit concerned about the actions of all conflicting parties in Fallujah. (Or "Falluja." Or is it "Fallouja?" However the fuck it's spelled.)

Amnesty International remains deeply concerned at the ever mounting civilian death toll. Half of at least 600 people who died in the recent fighting between Coalition forces and insurgents in Falluja are said to have been civilians- many of them women and children. Thousands have fled the city in search for safety since a ceasefire was agreed.

"Civilians continue to pay the ultimate price. This tragedy must be stopped and those responsible for civilian deaths must be held accountable," said Amnesty International.

"It is clear from recent events in Falluja that the parties to the conflict have disregarded international humanitarian law. A full, independent and impartial investigation is needed now," said Amnesty International.

There are fears that the ceasefire may not hold for long and the population of Falluja may once again be caught in the fighting and face a humanitarian crisis.

After reading this, I'm a little bit concerned about our military's decision to get some bulldozers and surround the city with a big mound of dirt.

Wednesday, Marines began building an earthen barrier around this Sunni Triangle city, suggesting that the U.S. does not anticipate an immediate resolution of the standoff...

The barrier ringing Fallouja will enable the Marines to further restrict the flow of people and vehicles in and out of the city.

What if somebody tries escaping from the city because they don't want to receive a cap in their ass from either side of this conflict?

Yes, but where's Phil T. Rich?

Remember Billionaires for Bush or Gore? Well, they're back! And they've dropped the Gore part.

No matter how many times they take to the streets - and they have become a noticeable presence in recent months - Billionaires for Bush can still stop you cold for the split second it takes the brain's synapses to recharge. Are they for real?

The Billionaires make for some of the best creative activism. I look forward to marching with them this yearjust like I did in 2000. And hey, maybe this time I'll put on a tux and join them. That would give me an excuse to post a picture of myself on the blog for those readers who ever wonder what this angry guy on the other end of the keyboard looks like. (Answer: Kinda goofy.) ;>

Rapes in Sudan

OK, here's the good news: this story doesn't come out of Iraq.

Here's the really horrible news: Hundreds of women in Sudan are getting raped by their military.

Alarming reports about the systematic rape of hundreds of women by the government backed armed militia, the Janjawid, have been coming from Darfur region in western Sudan over the past months, demonstrating the need for the international community to step up its pressure on the government. The Sudanese government must take urgent steps to address the human rights and humanitarian crisis in Darfur, Amnesty International said today.

Sigh...

[Update: Looks like it's more than just raping going on there.]

This is sure to in over the hearts and minds of Iraqis

By golly, shelling a mosque in Fallujah will do it!

How to tell when we're completely fucked

BAGHDAD, Iraq - (KRT) - In Ramadi, U.S. troops gave two-way radios to Iraqi forces, not for communications, as they claimed, but so they'd know when their allies were phoning Marine positions to the enemy.

In Sadr City and Najaf, Iraqi police asked permission from Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr - the man they were expected to capture or kill - before they reported to work.

Yup, that's dem wonderful Iraqi security forces that Bush has put together. What's our exit strategy again?

4/15/2004

I think Bobbit has a present for her. Erm, him. I mean. Yeah...

This just in from the "There's no possible way on Earth that I can make this shit up" dept.: "Court says girl, 13, can have sex change treatment Row over court ruling on girl's sex change treatment."

A child psychiatrist who has seen Alex over the past 16 months told the court she had dreams about having a penis.

"[He] has repeatedly stated his desire to be a boy and has behaved as such, going to boys' toilets, dressing in boys' clothes, boys' hairstyles and boys' games and activities.

"[He] has stopped having relationships with girls as a heterosexual type relationship. [He] feels angry and cheated that [his] body is female and angry that [he] has periods," he said.

Justice Alistair Nicholson ruled that hormonal treatment would be in Alex's best interests and would benefit the child's mental and emotional health, but the decision has divided medical experts and ethicists.

Mental health? Hoooo boy, that's rich.

How to tell when we're completely fucked

BAGHDAD – He saw it with his own eyes: a young boy with a Kalashnikov in one hand and a rocket launcher in the other, fighting an American tank. "He was only 10 years old," says Hussein Subhi with reverence, "but he was a man."

When 10 year olds in Iraq take up arms against the US, I say we're close to being completely fucked. Read the rest of the article, "Nationalism grows in Iraq."

Wow. Just plain wow.

After reading shit like this, it's unfathomable to me that anybody would support Dubya and claim he's an honest man.

The head of the CIA has told the 9/11 commission that the US was "in effect, unprotected" when it was attacked.

George Tenet said systemic problems in the intelligence community had left the country vulnerable to the attacks which killed nearly 3,000 people...

He also said he did not speak to George Bush in the month before the attacks, when Mr Bush was on holiday in Texas.

"He's in Texas and I'm either here [in Washington] or on leave for some of that time," Mr Tenet said in response to a question from commissioner Tim Roemer. "In this time period, I'm not talking to him, no."

In case this needs repeating, let's recap: Dubya receives a briefing telling him that bin Laden not only wants to attack America, but has agents in the states to carry out such an attack. Bush then takes a vacation for a month, and never says a word to the head of the CIA.

Holy shit. Bush knows bin Laden wants to attack America, and he doesn't press the CIA to uncover some terrorist plots? He goes on vacation? God, what the fuck?! Honestly to fucking god, What. The. Fuck?! And we're supposed to believe that he was concerned about terrorism and formulating a plan to attack al-Qa'ida? We're supposed to believe Ashcroft and Condi when they pin the blame for 9/11 on the Clinton administration?

Wow. Nixon would be proud. Hell, Hitler would be proud.

Time for the Not-So-Funny stuff in Iraq

Some graphs provided by the BBC speak louder than words.

But sometimes words are necessary.

The last two weeks have been the bloodiest yet for US soldiers in Iraq since the fall of Saddam Hussein. Iraqi deaths are much harder to track, but an Associated Press estimate puts the total since 1 April at 880.

Meanwhile, in that other war...

Afgahnistan-a-go-go:

Suspected Taleban fighters have killed a police chief and nine of his guards in an ambush in southern Afghanistan, a government official says...

Almost 20 people have been killed in violence over the past three days, including seven who were shot dead earlier this week in south-eastern Afghanistan.

Bin Laden's got a turban up his ass thiiiiiis big

It makes him a little uptight. Like today, in a new tape where he offers Europe a truce against violence, just as long as Europe "stops attacking muslims." However, he refuses to extend the same truce to the US. What the fuck, man? We're not all assholes.

Perhaps this has something to do with it:

And it condemns the recent US-led conflict in Iraq as a money-making scheme for companies making weapons or aiding reconstruction efforts - specifically naming the American firm Halliburton, AP said.

God, do I hate it when our worst enemy has a point.

Nader warns nation's youth about the threat of a draft

Yeah, yeah, I know everyone besides me and the Mat(t)'s hates Nader, and this story is from that wretched rag known as the Washington Times, but a broken clock is right twice a day.

The independent candidate noted that the federal government is filling seats on local draft boards as preparation for a reinstatement of the draft, which was eliminated in 1973.

"The Pentagon is quietly recruiting new members to fill local draft boards, as the machinery for drafting a new generation of young Americans is being quietly put into place," Mr. Nader said in a press release sent out to constituents and posted on his Web site during the weekend...

Rumors of a draft reinstatement emerged in the fall when the Selective Service announced that it was recruiting members for the nation's 2,000 local draft and appeals boards. A Selective Service spokesman said yesterday that the announcement was made to help fill spots on the boards, as many members' 20-year terms ended.

Hmmm.. I don't suppose there's a way that muckracking, upstanding citizens like me could cause trouble server on these boards, just in case. Nobody want's to think about the draft, and it's a long way off even if the speculation is true. However, who knows when Iraq will be secure and how many soldiers the government will need to secure it if the next presidential administration is run by a Bush or continues the policies of Dubya as far as keeping our troops in Iraq is concerned. South Vietnam, about half the size of New Mexico, had over 500,000 troops in it and the country still couldn't be secured. Iraq, about the size of California, already has over 100,000 troops and we're having trouble securing it. I just don't like the looks of those numbers.

Just being curious, which is sometimes a dangerous thing

If Enzyte polled their customers on what their income is and what kind of vehicle they drive, how high would sports cars and SUVs rank on the list? I betcha there won't be too many Saturns on there.

Light blogging

School work, yet again... Hopefully I can get this stuff done before 5.

Articles I'd be reading if I didn't have to attend to my schoolwork

God there's a lot of news tonight, and it's only 5AM. The new news cycle hasn't even started yet. I dount I could keep up even if I didn't have to do classwork, and, oh shit!, I still have to finish my taxes! Oops.

Anyways... Articles, you ask. Here's what I'd like to be reading.

"World set back 10 years by Bush's new world order, says Blair aide"
"Your history of folly in our region," Until the west listens to the Middle East's people, the future will be bleak
"Tony really must try harder," His essay on Iraq shows he has little grasp of his subject, world politics, by Terry Jones!
"FBI 'could not afford anti-terror experts'"
"Americans poised to enter holiest Shia site in hunt for Sadr"
"End human rights scandal in Guantanamo and other places"
"Mad cow disease: What's the real threat?"
"Bush Should Press Sharon on Rights Violations"

There needs to be a 48 hour day.

How to tell when we're completely fucked

When Patrick Buchanan has a feature article on Antiwar.com, that's when you know we are completely fucked.

Uh-duh!

The BBC always seems to have the best photos of our der leader.

Aljazeera, too.

God, what is the expression he's making in that picture? Did 41 pinch him inside his ass or something? "You said the wrong thing!" 'Oww! Daddy, stop!'

Yaaaaawn.. Predictable

Asshat Ashcroft blames Clinton for 9/11. In other news, after being told that bin Laden wished to bomb buildins and he had people inside our borders to do so, Bush went golfing. And the Bush administration ignored the Hart/Rudman report which was commissioned by the Bush administration. But Ashcroft blames Clinton. What a fucking asshole.

The economy's doing great!

As I reported in December, DuPont is cutting jobs. Thousands of them. It was finally a big story, so I'm glad the media has finally caught up with the Mouth.

Resolving the catfight

You know, it's funny to see a rather popular blogger bitch about how she just isn't as popular as compared to another blogger.

So Michele, if you're wondering why you're not as popular as Wonkette, it's because you don't post stuff like this. By the way, the world's smallest violins are over in aisle 22.

That ain't a tax cut I spy

New York's famous National Debt Clock is changing locations and being upgraded to digital. This upgrade provides a shocking assessment into just how fast our national debt is growing:

[In fact], the debt is now rising so quickly that the last seven numbers of the new clock will be moving too quickly to be read...

Too quick to read, eh? Now why could this be? Is it because there just happens to be a Bush in office? I think that's a good place to start. In fact, I think the White House is the first place people will look, seeing that most people think the national debt takes precedence over tax cuts.

By almost a 2-1 margin, Americans prefer balancing the nation's budget to cutting taxes, according to an Associated Press poll, even though many believe their overall tax burden has risen despite tax cuts over the past three years.

Now how could this be? Don't people like receiving more money? Or maybe they are starting to realize that a federal tax cut means increases in state and local taxes?

"Every time you turn around, there's a new gasoline tax, more property taxes, a library tax — because they don't have enough money," said Tom Artley, a 52-year-old supervisor at a manufacturing plant in Williamsport, Pa. He was referring to increasing financial problems faced by many cities and states.

"I'd like to retire in the next five years," Artley said. "It's scary for people like me who are going to be living on a fixed income."

Yeah, I think that could be it. People also might recognize that the higher our national debt grows without showing signs of decreasing, the more we are going to be taxed eventually. It doesn't take a masters degree in economics to figure out that whatever goes up must come down, and in this case come down hard. Federal taxes are going to go up again eventually because the monkey in the White House pushed them down too far. Personally, I'd rather have a president in office who helps to push those taxes back up for rich people so the bulk of the tax burden doesn't fall on my shoulders, the shoulders of the poor and middle class.

This, I'd like to think, is common sense.

Anybody got a gun?

I'm gonna shoot the internet. I've already lost two posts tonight. Grrr.

Ah-hah! This explains everyhing!

The FDA has approved computer chips to be implated in the brain. I think these chips are already required to be implated into any White House reporter who happens to be at a Bush press conference, just to make sure they don't ask any of those pesky, probing type of questions.

And you know, it's kind of funny that the FDA won't approve of the Plan B drug because some doctors think it's unsafe (is that the reason? actually, come to think of it, has the FDA even cited a reason to haling Plan B?), but cracking open somebody's skull and throwing a fucking microchip in there, why, that's perfect safe!

Second and third reactions

More flung poo from the monkey:

At a combination speech and news conference at the White House, Bush rejected suggestions that Iraq was becoming another Vietnam — a quagmire without ready exit. "I think that analogy is false," he said. "I also happen to think that analogy sends the wrong message to our troops and sends the wrong message to the enemy."

So, erm, what is the exit strategy? How long will we be there for? When do we know the job is finished? How the fuck are we going to leave? Isn't this starting to sound like Vietnam?!

I think Bush answers that with this next quote. I have part of this in the previous post, but the linked article completes his sentence. On Gen. Abizaid wanting more troops:

"If that's what he wants, that's what he gets," Bush said. "And we'll need to be there for a while."

Gee, isn't this the same administration that denied criticism from poplelike me when we said that our troops would be stuck in Iraq for years? Didn't Bush try telling us that we'd be in and out quickly, we'll whack Saddam and find weapons of mass destruction and the Iraqi people would rise up and welcome us with open arms and love us forever and form a democracy quickly and there would be no trouble at all and everyone would live happily ever after?

I didn't watch the press conference, nor have I read a transcript of it yet, but I'm going to go out on a limb that none of those reporters even dared to ask Bush what his "exit strategy" is, why all of his administration's predictions about the reactions of Iraqi people were wrong, and where the fuck are those goddamn weapons of mass destruction?! You know, the fucking reason we went to war in the first place? Couldn't one reporter have asked, "President Bush, why did you lie to us?"

First reaction

Yaaaaawn.. I just got up, so I missed Bush's poo throwing exhibition on prime time tonight. I'm guessing that I didn't miss anything Earth shattering, just a couple things which could be Iraq shattering. But here's one quote that really gets me:

Gen. John Abizaid, commander of U.S. forces in the region, said on Monday he had asked for two more brigades -- about 10,000 troops -- for Iraq. "If that's what he wants, that's what he gets," Bush said. About 130,000 U.S. troops are serving in the 145,000-strong U.S-led coalition in Iraq.

Geez, there's nothing like just outright bowing to the whims of the Pentagon, is there? God, even during the height of the Vietnam war, LBJ was still weary of the Pentagon, especially after Gen. Westmoreland wanted to use some tactical nukes. What happens if Gen. Abizaid asks to use tactical nukes, will Bush say, "Sure thing Johm, here ya go!"

4/13/2004

Our fuel problems are solved!

Headline: "Research: Pig Manure Can Become Crude Oil."

Mmmmm... Just imagine the smell of our highways if this becomes reality.

George W. Bush waffles tonight at 8:30

Break out the popcorn and all the alcoholic beverages you'll need to survive the experience. If we're lucky, maybe he'll throw some poo.

Ahhh, look at how well we can hold together an Iraqi security force...

Headline: "Iraqi police defect to Sadr."

So, why can't women purchase Plan B over the counter?

Could it be because there's a Bush in office? Probably.

Several members of the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) expert advisory committees are speaking out against the agency’s delay of its decision to make the emergency contraceptive Plan B available without a prescription. Two doctors on the advisory committee and Jeffrey M. Drazen, MD, the editor of New England Journal of Medicine, published an opinion piece in this week’s issue of the journal charging that the postponement of the FDA’s decision on making EC available over-the-counter “suggests that the FDA's decision-making process is being influenced by political considerations.”

Given the track record of safety Plan B has, there's no reason why it shouldn't be widely available. Regardless, the FDA is mulling a minimum age to purchase the drug and limiting your access to it by keeping it behind the pharmacy counter.

I'm trying not to shoot my mouth off with a bunch of profanities and insults right now, so I honestly at a loss for words. I'd like to say it's unbelievable that the GOP and pro-life groups will goto such extremes just to make sure a woman doesn't have the right, her right, to choose what happens to her body, but unfortunately this is quite believable. It's believable to the point where it's not even shocking anymore, and one is stymied on how to react in the face of such brazen stupidity. Plan B averts the need for an abortion, and sorry, but a cell or two after conception is not a human. I just killed a couple hundred cells tapping away on the keyboard to make this entry, should I be thrown in the pro-life slammer too?

Howard Raines: Asshole

Former NY Times editor and Mister Journalistic Integrity himself, Howard Raines, claims that Britain's newspapers are of "declining value," and bloggers suck because our, "unsourced ranting of Internet bloggers polluted the journalistic mainstream of the United States."

Hey, speaking of unsourced information, I heard Howard Raines takes it up the ass from Jayson Blair!

A little dash of reality

The divide between major media "reporting" and independents reports of what's happening in Fallujah is incredible. Check out a snippet of this Democracy Now! interview.

AMY GOODMAN: The northern Iraqi town of Fallujah is under siege. There are reports of a massacre at the hands of U.S. troops. The death toll in the town has now topped 600 with over 1,000 injured. Local hospitals report the majority of the dead are the women, children, and the elderly. The U.S. maintains 95% of those killed are member of the resistance. we go directly to Iraq with free speech radio news Aaron Glantz. Welcome, Aaron.

AARON GLANTZ: Thank you for having me.

AMY GOODMAN: We are about to go to a piece that you have just filed with us. Can you set it up for us and tell us the latest news right now?

AARON GLANTZ: Well, the best that I can ascertain is that everywhere I look on the mainstream media, they're talking about a cease-fire, a calm settled over Fallujah, and while I haven't been in Fallujah today, I have been talking to people who have fled Fallujah and who have been to Fallujah during this so-called cease-fire. They report whenever they go out of their homes, they're at risk of being hit by snipers, U.S. marines on bridges and on top of buildings, and of course, the Americans are fighting a guerrilla war against an increasingly violent resistance among the regular people of Fallujah. So, for the marines, every single member of the population of Fallujah is a potential enemy because almost the entire population is against the Americans. Those who are not against it, a week ago, have now changed their minds, because they have had their daughters and their sons and their mothers and their children just shot and killed or maimed in some way. So, we're going to be able to go to the Fallujah through the voices of some of those who fled as well as the voices of one journalist, who risked her life in order to get us materials to broadcast today.

If you want to hear about children getting shot dead, read the rest of the interview.

School work beckons. When I'm not pondering the novel I have to finish by tomorrow along with the take home test that's due when the book report is due all for one class, I tend to think of this one class as my teacher's version of "Survivor." It wasn't enough that half the class left before we had to read Michael Herr's "Dispatches." That book just killed the class, whittling the number of students to under 10. Then last week he assigns a take home test, due on the same day we're to hand in the last book review. I honestly think this man has a bet against his fellow teachers to see how many students he can get to drop the course before the end of the semester. Classes end in 3 weeks, there's still 9 students left.. Here's the final push!

I'll try to update this much as possible, but I can't make any promises.

At the IRS, corporate audits down - Personal audits up!

Is anybody surprised? I didn't think so.

But new figures just out show that the biggest earners, American corporations, are least likely to be audited or to pay any taxes at all.

With tax preparation services shifting into overtime, figures just out show that individual taxpayers are three times more likely to be audited than American businesses — even though U.S. companies earn nearly four times what all individuals combined do.

And let's not forget other things these all-American companies to to avoid taxes.

The General Accounting Office says 61 percent of U.S. companies avoided tax payments entirely legally. How? By keeping operations overseas, for example, and offering employees stock options — a huge tax write-off.

Yet I have to worry more about being audited. What the fuck, waffle boy?

Sistani gets anal

No, seriously.

Question:My question is, what does the holy book Quran and prophet Mohammad (pbuh) say about anal sex even if the wife agrees to experience this with her husband?

Thank you

Answer:As deduced from narration anal sex is permissible; but it is strongly undesirable. Permission is bound to wife’s agreement and consent to anal sex. If she is not consenting, it would be impermissible.

Yeah, I know this has nothing do to with the news...

You know, I saw five minutes of Fox News Today and they didn't mention any of this...

In fact the crap I listened to on NPR doesn't even come close to the facts Naomi Klein delivers in her latest dispatch from Baghdad.

After all, in the year it has controlled Baghdad, the Coalition Provisional Authority still hasn't managed to get the traffic lights working or to provide the most basic security for civilians. So in Sadr City, Sadr's so-called "outlaw militia" can be seen engaged in such subversive activities as directing traffic and guarding factories from looters. In a way, the Mahdi army is as much Bremer's creation as it Sadr's: it was Bremer who created Iraq's security vacuum - Sadr simply filled it.

This teaser doesn't get into the violence perpetrated by US forces. It's a quick read, and you really should read the whole thing.

"Bush style"

Raed goes into some detail about US operations in Falluja.

The first official body count said that 518 Iraqis were killed, including 167 women and 56 children under the age of five. The Iraqi Red Crescent said that another 5000 families ran away from the town.

Dozens of American soldiers were also injured and killed.

So, what did we achieve? ...

[Or] is it just a new example of how to build a mass grave, but Bush style?

Hey! All this nation building crap really seemed to work in Afghanistan!

Warlords there are duking it out.

Are you a RoveHo?

I'm still not quite sure is this website is a joke or not.

Bush's intellect explained

Nothing demonstrates Bush's lack of common sense better than this headline: "Bush Prays for a Drop in Iraq Casualties"

How about you stop praying and pull out some of the troops? Uh duh!

(It should be noted that this used to be the headline of the article, at least according to my RSS feed. It has since been changed. Perhaps some editor looked at it and said, "God, even this is too stupid for me."

600 = 4

How will history look upon this?

More than 600 Iraqis have been killed in fighting in Falluja since US occupation forces launched an offensive against resistance fighters in the town a week ago, say hospital sources...

"Dead bodies are lying in the streets. Ambulances are being shot at by snipers. Medical aid and supplies have been stopped by US occupation forces," a statement from the NGOs said.

I'm all for supporting the troops, but I cannot support a massacre. And if you feel leery about believe Al Jazeera's reporting, how about that of a more mainstream journalist?

Nothing could have been easier than gaining the good-will of the people of Fallujah had the Americans not been so brutal in their dealings. Now, a tipping-point has been reached. Fallujah cannot be "saved" from its mujaheddin unless it is destroyed.

And speaking of shameless...

Major Labels - Fuck'em! These whiny little bitches have now decided that 99 cent MP3 downloads, perfectly legal, should be shitcanned. They, "are discussing a price hike that would increase the tariff to $1.25 up to $2.99 per song." $2.99 per song! What's next, 5 bucks for anal rape, add 50 cents for some KY? Fuck'em. I personally hope all these fuckers go out of business so I can take a dump on their graves. Fuck major labels in the fucking goatass.

Oh, oh, TOXIC is playing... AGAIN! Argh! Fuck! How can major labels expect us to buy anything when they are content with releasing utter dogshit?!

Oh really.

Tony Blair is so full of shit.

Prime Minister Tony Blair, preparing for a meeting with President Bush, committed himself anew on Sunday to the war in Iraq, calling it part of a "historic struggle" against dictatorship, terrorism and fanaticism across the globe.

And here I thought England entered the war because Saddam supposedly had weapons of mass destruction would could reach their island in 45 minutes. But if Tony wants to trump up some new claims for going to war, he could at least amuse us by making those truthful. "Terrorism," for example, is invalid since Saddam has no connections to al-Qa'ida.

This kind of lying has just become shameless, apparently.

Do something!

You know Bush, I'm sorry the PDB memo you just declassified didn't include a tape of bin Laden telling you when and where al-Qa'ida would strike. But quite frankly, that's not an exucse for claiming that you were never warned of 9/11. Especially when part of the memo says this:

Al-Qa'ida members -- including some who are US citizens -- have resided in or traveled to the US for years, and the group apparently maintains a support structure that could aid attacks. [They're emphasis, not mine.] Two al-Qa'ida members found guilty in the conspiracy to bomb our Embassies in East Africa was US citizens, and a senior EIJ member lived in California in the mid-1990's.

That's a fucking warning if I ever heard one. What you do as president is get off your ass, goto the CIA and FBI and say, "HEY! GO FIND THESE FUCKING PRICKS!" But instead, you went on vacation for a month.

Unfuckingbelievable.

Raed the Debunker

I love this man. But in a purely hetro way, I assure you... I think I have said too much. Meep.

The number of Iraqis killed at Falluja in the last 6 days reached to 450, and another 1000 injured. Bombing the city with air fighters (F-16 and F-18) didn’t stop even after the announcement of the 24 hours suspension, Kimmitt says that today’s attacks are just for “self defense”. Kimmitt was creative today, I was watching an interview with him at AlJAzeera, where he stared for a couple of seconds and said: “duhm… Your correspondent at Faluja is reporting lies… dumhmh”!!
What the!!! I mean!!! Look who’s talking!!!
Even if AlJazeera are exaggerating and lying, and they are, how could someone like Rumsfeld or Kimmitt say a word about (lying)? They are the stars of the Liars Daily Show.

Hop hop hop, where's me egg?

Between the holiday and the sugar highs/lows that come with it, plus school work, I'm not sure how much Ill be around to update the blog today. This week's sex thread is still wide open for comments...
