Martha Martha Martha

You know, I do feel somewhat sorry for Martha. She's certainly not as evil as Enron, Global Crossing, or Tyco. And if I owned stocks and somebody told me that I was about to lose a fortune, I'd probably say "Sell sell sell!" too. But she committed a crime. Unfortunately for her, she committed this crime when the country was rabidly focused on getting the heads of some former corporate masters who just screwed us over. She doesn't deserve 20 years in jail, but she does deserve something for getting her hand caught in the cookie jar.

Defeated

So far, this hasn't been the best of weekends for me. Last night, I rammed my car into a pole when parking for a metal show. I was OK until I got knocked into a drumset at the show, fucking up my leg to the point where excessive walking could cause me to need stitches. Seeing that this has confined me to home, I would be making more posts but I've been in bed all day after weeks of getting only 6 hours sleep between wednesday-friday because of school and work. So I've just been an all around lazy, unproductive mess today. I don't want there to be a lack of updates on the site, though, so while I'm waking up (which should take a while), I'll leave you with this short story.

A summer almost 9 years ago, there was a big local BBS/computer geek meet up at Rocky Point, the late local amusement park. I went with Matt and another friend named Matt (I know too many Matt's). This other Matt does not post to the blog, but he does run ri-dnb, if you like drum and bass music.

Anyways, I think the head of the computer geeks picked to meet at Rocky Point that evening because Weird Al Yankovic was playing there that night. Matt, Matt, and I happened to run into Weird Al during the day, and our brush with greatness came during the cheesy haunted house ride. We hopped on our cart and throughout the whole ride, the people behind us were making fun of it. "Ooooh, I'm scared! Ooooh, it's a piece of cloth on a clothes hanger!" At the time, we didn't know who this was but we were kind of annoyed by his presence. D-n-B Matt decides that he'll say something to the man after the ride is done.

But just what do you say when that man is Weird Al? Matt was undaunted, going upto him and saying, "Could you sign my balls?" Weird Al replied, "Sure, do you have a sweat resistant marker?"

And so we met Weird Al. Fin.

(Matt would like you to know that he jogged my memory with this story, and wants some credit.)

Saturday is Cartoon Day!

Guilty, guilty, guilty, guilty.

Loaded Mouth presents today’s Random Cool Image from Space

Enjoy!

I wish my midterms were this easy

Perhaps I should bounce a ball around more often.

That multiple-choice final Georgia basketball players had to take was harder than you might think. "How many points for a 3-pointer?" Hmm ...

I want to hear if anybody got that question wrong.

Nope, nothing illegal going on here

GOP Aides Implicated In Memo Downloads

A three-month investigation by the Senate's top law enforcement officer found a systematic downloading of thousands of Democratic computer files by Republican staffers over the past few years as well as serious flaws in the chamber's computer security system.

...Pickle and his investigators said forensics analyses indicated that 4,670 files had been downloaded between November 2001 and spring 2003 by one of the aides -- "the majority of which appeared to be from folders belonging to Democratic staff" on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Unintimidated, here's what one of the Republican snoops had to say. This man, Miranda, worked on Majority Leader Frist's staff, so it's not far-fetched to assume that Frist had access to these Democrat memos.

In a statement e-mailed to reporters, Miranda said the report "fails to find any criminal hacking or credible suggestion of criminal acts," and called on Hatch to investigate the substance of the Democratic memos. He accused Pickle of having "acted improperly toward me from the first day I met with the investigators."

Read that over again, "[having] acted improperly toward me from the first day I met with the investigators." That's rich. Miranda has no place in determining who has and hasn't acted improperly during this investigation when all he needed to do to avoid meeting the investigators was not act improperly and peek at Democrat files. Dur. Not only did he see the files, but he (or somebody he gave the files to) leaked them to the press. But this poor baby is whining about investigators treating him "improperly." Earth to dipshit: Stop committing crimes, then you won't meet investigators.

Better Living through Blogging

What I learned from blogs today. Gotham City 13 has a few pertinent questions about Bush's desired method of campaign advertising.

Interested-Participant tells us a middle school teacher who was called to duty in Iraq has been told by the school district that he must pay the substitutes salary.

Spadehammer proves that Caleefornya's new gubernator is a bleeding hypocrite, instituting the policies of the Gray administration he ran against and becoming a huge cash register for special interests.

Berlin Blog has an interesting story and pictures of ice fishermen. It will make you smile.

Needlenose would like to tell you a joke. They would also like to tell you about Iraq's impeding civil war.

Uggabugga has the ad Bush really wanted to air.

And finally, WTF Is It Now? has all the reaction you'll want to read about concerning Bush's exploitation of 9/11.

And a second finally, because I can't stop updating this post, part time Loaded Mouth blogger F'n Mat tackles gay marriage at his own blog, Productivity's Down, with an editoral from the New Haven Register.

Bend over!

The government says gas prices will continue to rise.

Progress marches on

Man, I must be the only person on the planet without a cell phone.

The sorry state of Rock n' Roll

I've had to listen to the local top 40 hits station for the past couple of months at work. Right now, they are playing the Gin Blossoms "Hey Jealousy." Unfortunately, this light-hearted song is the heaviest song they've played in a while (unless you count Nickleback, and believe me, I don't). Yes, you heard me right, the Gin Blossoms hit from the early 90's is the heaviest song I've heard on this station. That's pretty pathetic.

Speaking of pathetic, why the hell is Nickleback signed to Roadrunner Records? I thought Roadrunner only signed real metal bands? When I think Roadrunner, I should think, "Goddamn, that's some real scary, shit your pants music!," not, "Someday, somehow, blah blah blah right now." Why doesn't Roadrunner sign real bands like the Daughters?, who not only play shit-your-pants music but even have a song titled, "Pants, Meet Shit."

The crowds shall increase this summer, I assure you

Yesterday, Bush went to Santa Clara so he could raise money to run more commercials that will offend millions of Americans. He was met by a few hundred protesters. Big dump of protest photos here, in case you're interested. (And here, too.)

How Gay Marriage has ruined the lives of millions of families across the globe

Here's the shocking details from countries that have legalized this sinful practice!

...In the Netherlands, nobody talks about the issue anymore.

"It's really become less of something that you need to explain," says Anne-Marie Thus, who in 2001 married Helene Faasen. "We're totally ordinary. We take our children to preschool every day. People know they don't have to be afraid of us."

Around the world, countries are coming to terms with how to treat homosexual couples — and the trend in many is toward liberalizing laws.

Man, just feel the evil.

Stories like this are the best

But there's no tossed salad.

A dispute at the salad bar turned into a food fracas at an upscale retirement home, with a man taking a bite out of another's arm and other residents suffering minor injuries.

...Hocker told Thoss no one wanted to eat food he had been playing with. Thoss yelled and cursed at him, Hocker told police, and Hocker called him a nasty name. Then, witnesses said, Thoss then began punching Hocker in the face.

You know, those damn trolls are always causing trouble.

Bush's Legacy

Bush's Reelection Campaign

I hope he's proud.

3/04/2004

Heh.

Photoshop is the greatest invention known to man.

OK, maybe one post

All I can say is what a fucking asshole.

With a huge $10.5 million down payment, President Bush's re-election committee rolled out its first campaign commercials on Wednesday, using images of the destroyed World Trade Center to claim ''steady leadership in times of change.''

''What sees us through tough times? Freedom, faith, families, and sacrifice,'' says one commercial, as clips roll of the Sept. 11 wreckage, children saying the Pledge of Allegiance, and firefighters.

I'm beyond insulted. This is just sick. To blatently use the deaths of nearly 3000 innocent people for you own political gain despicable behavior unworthy of a figure in such high office. Saying this is in poor taste doesn't begin to describe how I feel about this commercial. What a fucking asshole.

One more slow day, I promise

There may even be a few posts this morning. They'll could come later this morning after another hour of school work makes me say to myself, "Goddamn, I'm gonna blow my fucking brains out." Sigh. Sadly, I really do have to study and ace this midterm, so no more posts this morning. My last class before vacation is tonight, so regular blogging will return tomorrow morning. Then I know it's time for the best therapy session I know of: seeing how many profanities I can scream about Bush in one sentence. If there's a world record for this, I'm sure I've come close to grabbing it.

Right now, I'm coping with the truama of my first true delinking, being removed from one of the first blogs that linked to me and reminded me that people actually read this thing. Oh well. Win some and lose some..

Gee, that war's going great

I won't link to this because you've probably already heard about the bomb in Iraq that blew 185 to pieces. God, that's just fucking powerful and scary to think about. I listened to commentary about this on the radio yesterday, and they pointed out that it seems the attacks in Iraq in increasing in power, and death tolls, even though the death tolls among our troops have dropped. (Supposedly, I'd have to double check that, but I have noticed that I'm not seeing a headline of one of two troop deaths per day anymore.) On this, they mentioned that our troops have, in effect, learned how to avoid causalities by hiding and protecting themselves better, so opposition forces are now targetting Iraqi citizens who can't protect themselves. Buzzflash, who sometimes have excessive flare in their headlines, had a headline yesterday saying that civil war there is getting started. They may not be off the mark.

Where a coup is actually needed

I would fully support a Bush administration decision to kidnap Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe instead of slapping down some flimsy sanctions. In his nation, even the farmers are starving since the onset Mugabe's bogus land redistribution policies. Mugabe could also be using starvation as a political tool against those who oppose him.

Another slow day

My apologies. There are a bazillion things I want to talk about, but homework has taken over my life for this week. My final class this week is thursday night, so I keep telling myself friday, friday, friday... Then I'll have time to do things like post to the blog again. Whee!

Published

The Village Voice published a letter I wrote to them. (Search page text for "Adam" to find it.) The letter itself is nothing special, but it's always cool to get published in various places.

You know, when I think of one, I always think of the other!

Unfortunately, I didn't get to take many photos during my latest bout of Southern Exposure, but this one is a beauty.

Pounce

So, Edwards is out and the Democrats simply haven't learned. Not only did the the party refuse to erect a progressive candidate when they had the chance, but when their choice was whittled down to two centrist candidates, they pick the one with the largest track record to run negative ads against, and the one who is least likely to pick up Republican, Green, and Independent voters. You just can't have it both ways with the Democrats. I mean, it was almost a predestined conclusion after Iowa that their nominee wouldn't have a set of balls, but you at least hoped that the guy would be the most electable out of the bunch. What's the point of running a centrist with the least likely chance to win? If you're going to run a guy who isn't electable, at least have some principle and give the nomination to Kucinich.

Sigh.

You may have guessed that I don't hold a high opinion regarding John Kerry. He looks like the most electable candidate against Bush right now, but Bush hasn't started his campaign yet. I think Kerry is a sitting duck who's going to be put on the defensive the whole campaign, which is exactly what we don't need from a candidate who's supposed to hold our best chance to defeat Bush. All this from a candidate who, admit it, you don't REALLY want to vote for.

Sure, Kerry has a chance against Bush, but I would have been more comfortable with Edwards. And if November gives us another 4 years of Bush and the Democrats start shouting, "Nader! Nader! Nader!," again, just tell them to fuck off. It wasn't Nader's fault that Bush won in 2000, it was the fault of Democrats ignoring problems, instead choosing to apply a scapegoat to the issues. Four years have passed, and apparently nothing has changed. The Democrats continue to wonder why candidates like Nader will eat away at their vote totals while propping up the most centrist, most Republicrat candidate who, in this case, also happens to be devoid of any personality to speak of. And if they lose again, the Democrats will surely find a scapegoat to pin the defeat on instead of running somebody who has some balls that people would actually want to vote for, instead of running Bush Lite who people only want to vote for because he's not Bush. When your candidates base of voters is that fickle, you're not going to get that many votes.

Let the race begin. Lurch v. Der Monkey. Right now, I'll be casting my independent vote for a bullet to the head.

This is the scariest fucking thing you'll ever see

Hello. I'd love to claim to be back, since I am back in RI and back at work, but I received a metric fuckton of reports to run tonight which I have yet to finish. After I finish those, I have a midterm to study for. Sigh. I was hoping reality would wait for a few hours after I hop off the plane to hit me with a ton of bricks, but I had a great weekend so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Anyways, this may be the only link you see from me until tonight. And it's the scariest fucking thing you'll ever see. Well, besides a Backstreet Boys reunion.

I'd like to thank the Mat(t)'s and Lumenia for keeping the place updated while I was away. Their posts seem to have generated more comments in one weekend then I've had from my posts alone in a while, so I'm rather jealous and I think I might need a good cry. I should be fully back in action tomorrow, with new karate moves and an extra strong kung-fu grip for her pleasure. And who knows, I may even make sense!
